Mr. Jackey Eugene Simmons, 84, of Metter, passed away, Friday, April 9, 2021 at Cedar Plantation surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Simmons was born on March 28, 1937 to Mr. Alfred and Mrs. Lucille Bates Simmons in Palmer, Illinois. He served his country by joining the United States Navy, retiring in 1971, worked as a diesel mechanic and worked part time Mid Florida Technical School as a diesel mechanic instructor. He enjoyed dirt track racing and while in Florida had multiple point championships, earning his racetrack nickname, “Hammer n’ Jack.” Mr. Simmons loved watching NASCAR and fishing and shrimping at the Coast. He was a loving caring, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ralph Edwards Simmons.

Ten grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at Kennedy-Brannen Funeral Home. Graveside funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at Lake Cemetery with Rev. Bo Fulginiti officiating.
Pallbearers: Travis Griffin, Butch Braner, Robert Wilburn, Joey Wright, Dobson Deal, and Cannon Griffin.
