Obituary

Betty Manuel Bell, 85, passed away, Thursday, May 14, 2020 at Emanuel Medical Center in Swainsboro following an extended illness.

She was born on July 11, 1934, in Bulloch County to the late Edward Manuel and Ella Bell Collins Manuel.  She and her family moved to Metter while in high school.  She attended Metter High School and graduated in 1952, where she was named Miss Senior.  She loved to play basketball and was on the basketball team.  She worked for Texgas and Amerigas as a Manager in the Metter and surrounding areas.  She loved her job, but her favorite job in life was being “Nannie” to Trey, Ashlyn, and Anna as well and keeping her grandpup, Miley.    She loved the outdoors and could be found working in the yards, fishing, or sitting on the back deck enjoying the beautiful weather.  Her home was always open to family and friends where there was always a great meal she cooked being served at the family table.  In the last several years as her health decline, she was at Church Street Manor where she provided daily laughter to all of the residents.  She loved her caretakers there: Elaine, Melrose, Mary, Priscillia, and Shay.

She was a member of the Metter Methodist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and would serve in any role given in the church when asked.  She loved her church and all the members.

She is proceeded in death by her siblings: Roy Manuel, Toby Manuel, Walt Manuel, Forrest Manuel, and Evelyn Strange.

She is survived by her daughter Belinda Bell Tiller of Blackshear; her daughter and son-in-law, Scott and Susan Bell Steele of Metter; her grandchildren Trey Tiller of Huntsville, Alabama; Anna Tiller of Blackshear; and Ashlyn Steele of Metter; her precious sister Mae McClain of Statesboro; and her lifelong friend and father of her children Homer Bell as well as many nieces and nephews.
