Obituary for Edmond "Kent" Campbell

Mr. Edmond “Kent” Campbell, 80, of Metter, passed away, Sunday morning, December 3, 2018 at Memorial Health University Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Campbell was born on November 17, 1938 to Mr. Edmond Lamar and Mrs. Bonnie Lee Rigdon Campbell, and lived here all his life. He was a farmer and retired from the USDA Market News Division. He served as Candler County Chairman of Commissioners from 2005 to 2008, was President of Candler County Farm Bureau for several years, and was soil conservation man of the year in 1969. He attended Upper Lotts Creek Primitive Baptist Church and a member of Candler County Young Farmers and Sapalo Saltwater Fishing Club at Shellman’s Bluff. In his spare time he was a licensed charter boat captain, enjoyed saltwater fishing and serving as guide on off shore deep sea fishing on his boat, First Light. He also enjoyed cooking and staying at his coast house. His most important past time was spending time with his family, which he would say was the best thing since grits.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Campbell and a grandson, Michael Kay.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Margaret Parker Campbell of Metter; son, Lavon Campbell (Kristy) of Cobbtown; daughter, Tonya Campbell Harris (William) of Metter; brother, Michael Campbell (Susan) of Statesboro; grandchildren, Pamela Campbell Monroe (Jason) of Metter, Jonas Rivenbark (Brooke) of Metter, Houston Harris of Metter, Hunter Campbell of Metter, Madison Wilson (Craig) of Vidalia, Adam Dees of Vidalia and Justin Dees of Vidalia; great-grandchildren, Arleigh Grace Monroe, Cheslee Monroe, Ella Rivenbark and Cal Patrick Rivenbark all of Metter. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, December 5, 2018 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Kennedy-Brannen Funeral Homes, Metter Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday morning, December 6, 2018 at 11 a.m. from Kennedy-Brannen Funeral Homes, Metter Chapel with Elders Randy Waters and Scott Rhiner officiating. Burial will follow in the Lake Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Hunter Campbell, Houston Harris, Jonas Rivenbark, Jason Monroe, Bill Bird, Bobby Crooms, Allen Rigdon and Joey Collins.
